CONSTRUCTION COMPANION UK & USA
You're in our UK store. For work in America, explore our state-specific construction contracts covering all 50 states.
THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANION WORLDWIDE JOURNEY
Established in the United Kingdom in 2008 and in the United States in 2010, Construction Companion has spent years developing practical construction contracts around real trade experience. From our established UK and USA ranges to the markets we're building for next, our approach stays the same: understand the trade, then respect the law in each location.
ONE IDEA. DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.
Roofers, plumbers, electricians, builders and other tradespeople know exactly where a job can go wrong. Late payments. Variations. Delays. Poor access. Difficult customers. We build contracts around that real-world knowledge, then adapt the legal terms for the place where the work takes place.
The USA total counts state-specific editions, not 1,600 different contract types. The UK figure excludes HR documents.
Start with the people on site and the disagreements they have actually encountered.
Check the legal landscape, customer protections and construction practices in each jurisdiction.
Clear, practical contracts without unnecessary legal jargon or a one-size-fits-all approach.
01 / OUR BEGINNING
UNITED KINGDOM
Established in 2008. Shaped by firsthand trade experience.
Construction Companion began with a simple belief: a construction contract should understand the work, the people doing it and the problems that can arise. We began with tailored contracts and developed that experience into accessible templates for UK tradespeople.
Our United Kingdom range includes 42 construction contract templates, excluding our separate HR documents. These cover different trades and work types, built around the disputes and responsibilities tradespeople encounter on the job.
We don't believe contractors should have to decipher pages of heavy legal language just to set out what they're doing, when they'll be paid and what happens if the job changes.
EXPLORE UK CONTRACT TEMPLATESConstruction contracting isn't governed by identical laws across the whole United Kingdom. Scotland has its own distinct legal system, and Northern Ireland is a separate legal jurisdiction. England and Wales share a legal jurisdiction, although some devolved requirements may differ.
That is why UK construction contract terms, payment provisions and consumer protections must be considered in the context of where the work takes place, not treated as interchangeable across all four nations.
A UK label alone doesn't make a contract suitable for every type of job or every legal jurisdiction.
02 / ESTABLISHED IN THE USA
UNITED STATES
Established in the USA in 2010 — just two years after our UK beginnings.
American contractors face familiar job-site problems, but they also work under different state rules, licensing requirements and customer-protection laws. Our US construction contracts are built around each state and trade — not a generic document with an American flag on the cover.
Our USA library covers 32 construction contract types, with a state-specific edition for each of America's 50 states — 1,600 contract editions in total. The range reflects our long-established, state-by-state approach to construction contracts.
From roofing and solar installations to electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other construction services, the aim remains the same: useful paperwork built with trade experience and informed by legal knowledge.
32 CONTRACT TYPES. 50 STATES.
1,600editionsEach of our 32 US construction contract types has 50 state editions. Payment terms, notices, lien rights, cancellation provisions and residential construction rules vary by state, so the detail matters just as much as the scale.
EXPLORE THE USA STORESTATE-SPECIFIC US CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS
Construction is a national industry, but the rules aren't the same everywhere. Payment requirements, licences, consumer protections and lien rights can change from one state to the next. Your contract needs to recognise where the work actually takes place.
50 states. Different legal requirements.
03 / IN DEVELOPMENT
PLANNED: SPRING 2027CANADA
10 provinces. 3 territories. No shortcuts.
Canada is a natural next chapter for Construction Companion, but a single nationwide construction template cannot capture every provincial and territorial difference.
We're developing our Canadian approach around contractors' actual working conditions, payment problems, variations, project delays and local legal requirements. Topics for local review include construction liens, holdbacks, prompt-payment rules and consumer protections. Quebec's civil-law setting and French-language considerations require particular attention.
Canada is in development. Planned release: spring 2027, subject to trade input, jurisdiction-specific testing and legal review.
Our intended coverage is organised around all ten provinces and three territories. Listing a jurisdiction here describes our development scope, not an available or legally approved edition.
British Columbia · Alberta · Saskatchewan · Manitoba
Ontario · Quebec
New Brunswick · Nova Scotia · Prince Edward Island · Newfoundland and Labrador
Yukon · Northwest Territories · Nunavut
Contractors first. Local trade feedback, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction legal research, practical testing and qualified legal review before release.
04 / IN DEVELOPMENT
PLANNED: UK SUMMER 2027AUSTRALIA
Some Australian contract drafts have already been made. The work isn't finished.
We're developing construction agreements with input from people who understand Australian worksites. That means going beyond the trade name on the cover to consider late payments, variations, weather delays, site access, defects, cancellations and customer expectations.
Our current drafts remain under review. Next comes practical field testing and further trade feedback, followed by checks with appropriately qualified Australian legal professionals. We will not treat a draft as ready for sale merely because its wording looks complete.
Target: UK summer 2027. Availability depends on local trade testing and completed legal checks; the date is a plan, not a promise of approval or release.
Australia has shared national consumer-law principles, but construction contracting, licensing, domestic building requirements and security-of-payment rules need to be checked for the state or territory concerned.
Each location has its own practical and legal considerations. These are regions under consideration, not currently available editions.
WHAT STILL HAPPENS BEFORE A CONTRACT REACHES THE TRADE
Contributors identify the disputes and difficulties they have faced on actual jobs.
Drafts are tried in real working conditions and reviewed against practical feedback. This stage is still required.
Qualified local professionals assess the wording against applicable national and state or territory requirements. Still required.
Only editions that complete the checks move towards launch; timing may vary between jurisdictions.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
From the United Kingdom and United States to Canada and Australia, our aim is to build a genuinely international library of construction contracts. Not one document for everywhere, but documents developed for the contractors, the trade and the law in each place.
THROUGH 2030 AND BEYOND
We intend to develop across European markets in phases through 2030. Different countries mean different languages, legal traditions, payment rules and consumer protections. Each market must earn its place in the library through local trade understanding and appropriate legal review.
The same rule applies wherever we go: understand the job before writing the contract.
FOLLOW THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANION STORY
Our next chapter will be shaped by the tradespeople who help us understand the work and the disputes worth preventing.
